YOU CAN MAKE IT

Most African children are brought up in a way that their parents are like small gods to them.  When your mum or dad calls you, you immediately stop whatever you are doing and run to them. Whatever they say is right and you are always wrong whenever it comes to an argument. We are not to look our parents in the eyes, we kneel down when giving them anything. When they come home from work you run to welcome them and ask them what they want to eat. 

As you start going to school, your teachers are the small gods now. They cain you for coming late to school, failure to do homework, failure to pass an exam and any other activity that is deemed indiscipline to them. Eventually we grow up with a lot of fear and low self esteem and at the end of it all we are still to blame. Most parents do not try to build our self esteem, some actually just make us believe that we are stupid.

Everything is about books even when you try to show your parents your talents they will still bring back the topic to books. They will be like, “Bring your report card and I have a look at it”. This just spoils the mood, not everyone was meant to find success through books. It is important to have those educational documents but it is no use if someone does not want it. I believe that it is better for someone to do something they have love and passion for.

When you open up to someone and tell them your career dreams and expect them to encourage you and give you guidance and they instead discourage you. You become closed minded and discouraged. You feel like you have been crushed. You end up not knowing what step to take in your life. Constant failure in school does not mean you are stupid but if the people around us make us believe we are stupid, we end up believing that we are actually stupid. God gave us a lot of skills, we just have to know how and where to apply our skills.
